WHOOPING CRANE RESTORATION PROJECT:
ST. MARKS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
A Presentation by TERRY PEACOCK
When the whooping crane population had nearly vanished in the mid-20th century, management efforts were crucial to the recovery of this species. Terry will give a history of the whooping crane reintroduction program conducted by the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP), which includes using ultralight aircraft to lead young whooping cranes on their southward fall migrations. She will also discuss how St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge became a part of the WCEP partnership, how the community has supported the efforts, as well as general whooping crane behavioral and biological information.
