Please allow me to introduce you to the Progressive Pediatric Developmental Center (PPDC). We are a Non Profit center dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families with disabilities in North Florida. Our mission is to provide an inter-disciplinary approach to the development of children with special needs, learning disabilities, and social disorders. We strive to close the gap between conventional educational and developmental services. We were founded on the principle that all children deserve the opportunity to learn in their own capacity, to create their own success, and independence.

Progressive Pediatric began as a therapeutic clinic offering physical, occupational and speech therapies. Later, after recognizing obvious needs in our community, a vision was formed; to create a center that provides all services, in one location, covering all aspects of a child’s development. Since then, Progressive Pediatric has expanded to include a variety of services. We now offer an assortment of social and educational services. These services include a full-time school, summer camp, play groups, tutoring, afterschool activities, and social events for teens. Additionally, we offer child care to include infant and toddler care, preschool and VPK in an inclusive setting.

These advances at PPDC are only the beginning of our plans to bridge the societal gaps for children with special needs and their families. At the present time Progressive is working toward our goal of Life Town. Life Town will be a city that allows all children to learn to live and navigate within their communities. Life Town’s applications range from teaching children and young adults life skills, job skills and social skills. This facility will offer educational, recreational, farming and horticultural experiences to Tallahassee and surrounding area Public, Private and Charter schools as well as open to the public. Life Town Educational Centers purpose is to teach those life skills necessary for success and independence.

In order to achieve these lofty goals we need the community’s help and support. We ask that you share in our passion, and make a difference in the lives of children and their families, by becoming a sponsor at our 1st annual fundraiser, Luau At The Lodge. This event will be a fun filled POLYNESION ADVENTURE! This event will be in full Hawaiian fashion with a full LUAU Buffet with roasted pig, Polynesian dancers and fire dancer, with entertainment by “Sala’s South Sea Revue”, and live and silent auctions.

Funds raised will go towards The Leaning Center.

Thank you in advance for your support of the dream for “our” community.

With love from,

Tammy McKenzie

The Learning Center is a local 501-C3 not for profit school for individuals with special needs ages 5-22.  Or goal at The Learning Center is to teach life skills, job skills and social skills from an early age.  Our school is funded by McKay scholarships, Gardner scholarship and parent pay.  Our students receive occupational, physical and speech therapy services through our program.  We have a community based work where we take our student out into community to learn work and life skills.  We also have an in-house PAEs program which is a 250 task based program that we are able to train and document strength and weaknesses. This program allows us to train more effectively in the areas of a student’s strength.

We have a large goal of building a community called Life Town.  This facility will house the LifeTown education center. A recreational facility that would be the hub of Special Olympics for our state.  A farm that would teach agricultural skills and farm skills.  This is an extension of our school that will allow students from a 150 mile radius of Tallahassee to come and use this learning facility.

Our websites are www.progressivepediatric.org.   And … www.lifetowntallahassee.org

Come join The Learning Center in a grand night of Hawaiian Luau Fun! A grand night of Polynesian Cuisine with live Polynesian entertainment provided by “Salas South Sea Revue”! Polynesian hula dancers and fire breathing, juggling dancers! All in the beautiful setting of Wakulla Springs Lodge. All funds raised benefits the education of children with special needs.
