3rd Annual Whatever Floats your Boat Regatta
October 11, 2014
THIRD ANNUAL WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT REGATTA FEATURES FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Florida State University’s Coastal and Marine Laboratory is inviting beach and water lovers from across the Big Bend area to pack up the family and head to St. Teresa for the third annual Whatever Floats Your Boat Regatta from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11.
The regatta features “boats” made from scratch by participating teams that are raced around a predetermined course for fun and prizes. Stressing an environmental conservation theme, each “boat” must be created from a list of approved recyclable materials and, at least initially, should be able to float. Past regattas have included boats made entirely out of materials such as aluminum cans and plastic bottles, and featured boat shapes ranging from canoes to giant sea turtles.
The race will be fully visible from various shoreline vantage points around the Marine Lab and the nearby boat basin. Other festivities surrounding the regatta include live music by Belle and the Band, and food for purchase from Coastal Restaurant.
