Smoke and Fire
Wakulla County firefighters are excited to present the 4th annual charity “Smoke and Fire” B-B-Q Cook-off contest Saturday October 12th at Hudson Park in downtown Crawfordville. This event will include more Fire Department and Law Enforcement teams than ever from around the Big Bend area. At last year’s event we served nearly 800 dinners and we are expecting over a 1,000 happy diners this year.
The proceeds from this contest will be used to support various local charities including; Camp Amigo and the Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation. These two charities are proudly supported by your local Fire and Law Enforcement Community.
Camp Amigo was started by the Tallahassee Fire Department but now has regional support. Camp Amigo gives children that have suffered crippling or disfiguring burns a place to go and be with their peers. The children are cared for by firefighters for a week of fun at Rish State Park on Cape San Blas. The firefighters do the cooking and cleaning and the kids come with a can do attitude. It is our goal to never turn away a burned child.
The Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation was organized to serve our combat wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. The Warriors are brought to our area with all expenses paid. The soldier will come from a military hospital to our area for a week of relaxation, fishing and Wakulla hospitality. When the soldier returns to the hospital they will have good memories of Wakulla County. bbq_poster_2013
