News from Wakulla Historical Society

We are having a sale at the Museum Gift Shop with 10% off of everything.  All of our amber glass pieces are marked 60% off.  We have several new books which are also 10% off through the holidays.  There are many items in our Gift Shop and it is a good place to do your Christmas shopping.  The Museum will be closed from Dec. 23 until Jan. 3.

Please see information below from Madeleine Carr about the 2013 Heritage Play and our Founder’s Day Celebration.

Hello Everyone from Madeleine Carr: As the New Year fast approaches, remember that Wakulla County was established on March 11, 1843. That means that the year’s Founder’s Day event is a special celebration. Please mark your calendars to attend the third annual Palaver Tree Theater Company/Wakulla County Historical Society Wakulla Story performance at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 8, and at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 9. The location is extra special: The main court room of the current Wakulla County Courthouse.
Of course you should also be on the lookout for auditions coming up, and a special Sneak Peak at the Wakulla County Library on Friday, January 11, in the evening. The focus of the play is the earliest survey and its consequential two Supreme Court hearings. The survey in Spanish Florida involved land in the what is known as the Forbes Purchase and is called the Hartsfield Survey. St. Marks features prominently in the dispute, so let everyone know that they have a date at the courthouse in March.
If you’d like to be in the play contact Herb Donaldson at palavertreetheater@gmail.com.
